CMS Chapter Historian’s Biography

Alethia Lucky

Alethia is currently the Immediate Past President of the Blacks In Government at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (BIG@CMS) Chapter. She served as Chapter President since July 2018 up through December 31, 2023. She pursues fairness and opportunity for all and understands the complexities of achieving that goal. She has been a member of BIG since January 2017. 

Ms. Lucky has also served as the Region III 2022 Regional Training Conference (RTC) Chair. She also served as Region III Training Chair 2020 – 2022.  Hosted the Region III  4th Quarter Council Meeting in 2021. Ms. Lucky, participated on the National Program and Planning Committee supporting its inaugural virtual High School Mentoring Program and its virtual Officer Leadership Training Program (OLTP) in 2021.

Alethia Lucky is also an Information Technology Specialist in the Office of Minority Health at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Department of Health and Human Services. She has served in the federal work force for almost 14 years. She enjoys challenging and meaningful work and has worked in the private industry for 24 years prior to becoming a federal employee.

Alethia has a B.S. degree in Business Finance from the University of Maryland, College Park and an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) in Computer Programming from Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus. She’s currently in graduate school at Stevenson University pursuing her M.S. Degree in Business and Technology Management with an emphasis in Innovative Leadership.

She grew up in the City of Baltimore and is a first-generation college student. She understands the opportunities and challenges of growing up in an urban center and feels compelled to give back. She believes in being a role model and understands that to whom much is given, much is required! Alethia has one adult son – Marcus. She loves spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys church, mentoring, dancing, singing, bowling, tennis, and swimming.
