About AGAPE

The Agape Chapter of Blacks in Government (BIG) organized in December 1999 at Baltimore VA Medical Center with 15 members.  We received our official charter at the National Blacks in Government National Training Institute – NTI (formerly National Training Conference – NTC) in Washington, DC on August 21, 2000.  Since then, our membership has grown to 26 individuals coming from various backgrounds including:

  • Nursing
  • Accounting
  • Public Relations
  • Engineering
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Prosthetics
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Project Management
  • and more…

We offer training, professional growth and development opportunities through a large network of Black professionals; counseling and representation; community service; job opportunities through media avenues; honorary award programs and advocacy for equality in employment.

The Agape Chapter chose as its primary focus the mentoring and support of the youth in our community.  This, we felt was essential to promote equality and professionalism in the workplace.  We must first educate our youth to make them aware of our history and prepare them for what we already know lies ahead on the horizon.
